ISG wins £13.5m Imperial College London refurb

ISG has won a £13.5 million contract with Imperial College London to refurbish and modernise the mechanical engineering building.

The project is due to commence at the end of August with completion scheduled for October 2010.

The first phase of the redevelopment of the building sees ISG carrying out a comprehensive programme of refurbishment and modernisation across the lower three floors within the mechanical engineering building.

Minor demolition works and complex structural alterations of the existing building will enable the contractor to form a range of engineering workshops and state-of-the-art material testing laboratories.

Across the upper five floors of the building, ISG will form new enlarged vertical service risers in anticipation of the second phase of the scheme, which sees the refurbishment of the remaining teaching accommodation.

This second phase of the redevelopment includes major works to improve the façade of the building, with renowned architects practice Foster & Partners designing this element.
