Honeywell to axe 80 jobs

Manufacturing giant Honeywell is to cut around 80 jobs at its Newhouse plant in Motherwell.

The cuts will impact its Environment Control and Combustion department which covers a whole range of HVAC products including ventilation, humidification, gas valves, thermostats and heating controls. The Sensing and Control division will also be affected.

Zekie Dennehy, Honeywell corporate communications manager, said: 'This unfortunate step is necessary to ensure cost structure is in line with our demand.

'It is important to say that we are entering a 30-day consultation period with the employees, and during this period we will endeavour to work with employees to see whether the number of proposed redundancies could be reduced, and also lessen the impact on individual employees.'

Honeywell has 'long term future' at Newhouse

Michael McMahon, who represents Hamilton North and Bellshill, said: 'I have contacted the company who have stressed that this measure does not reflect on their plant or functional performance at Newhouse.

'I was pleased to hear that the management remain positive about the company's long-term viability and I hope that the future of the remaining employees is secure.'
