Wates is to hone in on the property maintenance business after taking over a leading repairs and refurbishment firm.
The acquisition of Linbrook Services will see Wates boost its presence in the affordable housing sector - an area where Linbrook has been a market leader for its maintenance business.
Linbrook looks after 100,000 affordable homes, mainly in the London and Home Counties area, and has a turnover of £48 million.
Wates said it will use its new set-up to launch a national response maintenance business, which will focus on education, railway and public buildings.
Linbrook managing director Graham Scott said the firm welcomes the opportunity to be part of the Wates business.
