The group’s preliminary results for the year ending March 31, 2008, showed the purchase of heating and plumbing specialist Robert Prettie had helped the division to increase profit before tax by 41.8 per cent over the previous year to £15 million.
Divisional managing director Bill Wilson said: “Over the next five years, plumbing and heating will be more and more integrated into the core business.”
Mr Wilson said feedback from social housing and affordable-housing clients showed they wanted heating and plumbing included in the “bundle of services” provided by Mitie covering repair, minor works and maintenance.
The group’s overall profits before tax were up 21.3 per cent to £70.6 million. Chief executive Ruby McGregor-Smith said the group was well placed to make “sustainable, profitable growth” despite the economic climate and had a record order book worth £4.4 billion.
