Gareth Vaughan, the managing director of ductwork specialist E Poppleton & Son, was elected president of the HVCA for 2008/09 on Wednesday.
Mr Vaughan joined the firm as an installation assistant in 1973. He was promoted to the position of supervisor in 1976, and to projects manager in 1981.
He was appointed managing director of the company, which is based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, in 1989, and has held this post ever since.
Throughout his career, Mr Vaughan has shown a commitment to vocational education and training and, during his period as managing director, Poppletons has won a number of prestigious awards. It was also a Wales Business of the Year finalist in 2006.
Gareth Vaughan was chairman of the HVCA North West Region from 1994 to 1996. He has been a member of the HVCA Council, and the Executive Committee of the Association’s Ductwork Group, since 1997.
In the same year, he joined the Membership Committee – on which he continues to serve – the Operative Standing Committee and the Operative Negotiating Sub-Committee.
He was chairman of the Ductwork Group for three years from 2000, and has been a director of Engineering Services SKILLcard Ltd since 2002.
Gareth Vaughan became president-elect of the HVCA in July 2007.
He succeeded to the presidency of the Association at its annual general meeting on 10 July 2008.
At the same meeting, Graham Manly of Gratte Brothers Ltd was elected HVCA president elect.
Retiring president John Miller, of J H Shouksmith & Sons Ltd, will serve during 2008/09 as immediate past president.
