Apprentice of the Year

Sam Caton began his journey as a trainee engineer in August 2010 as part of a four-year Engineering & Construction Apprenticeship Programme in conjunction with BEST and North Trafford College.

During this time, he has completed rotations across various departments to gain an understanding of the business, but also begin his journey as an engineer.

Sam initially worked in the office on the tenders and bids as part of the estimation/bid team, but then moved to the delivery/operations department. His first live project involved participating on a local data centre project in Manchester, alongside a team of subcontractors and project managers.

In addition to these practical achievements, Sam quietly and confidently got on with his studies, ensuring he gained his BTEC Level 4. Since the Manchester data centre project, Sam has been promoted from trainee engineer to project engineer.

At the direct request of the project manager who delivered the data centre project in Manchester, in August Sam joined the team on a £28M data centre project near Heathrow, building and improving on the work carried out at his first site.
