Dutch unveil 63 million Euro renewables funding

The Dutch government is set to invest 62 million euros into providing subsidies for the installation of renewable and low carbon technology including solar and heat pumps.

Economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven said the subsidy would hopefully help 70,000 households purchase systems by 2011.

In 2003 the Dutch cabinet previously scrapped subsidies for domestic solar panels as the strategy was viewed as too expensive.

The latest initiative follows an announcement in January that the Dutch government will subsidise power generated by solar panels and wind.
