Constructionline sees sign-up growth for second quarter running

Constructionline, the Government-owned register of pre-qualified suppliers, has seen a second consecutive quarter of growth in both contractor and client sign-ups.

The latest figures released by the service show it added 430 new suppliers to its database between April and June this year.

During the same period, over 35 new buyers adopted the service as their preferred supplier register, including Strabane Council in Northern Ireland and insulation merchants SIG plc.

Overall around 17,700 contractors and 2,000 plus clients are now registered.

Constructionline sales and marketing director Philip Prince said: “A rising national budget deficit has put public sector clients under increased pressure to purchase efficiently.  Meanwhile their counterparts in the private sector, working in a challenging economic climate, are increasingly competing on cost to win new work.

“At the same time contractors, particularly SMEs, can ill afford to spend substantial amount of time and money on pre-qualification. All of these factors have meant buyers and suppliers are turning to new procurement systems.”
