Central heating tops complaints

Shoddy central heating is top of the list of problems highlighted by homeowners according to West Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards Service.

In one month the department received 42 complaints about central heating with the next most serious area of complaint plumbers and plumbing with 11 complaints.

Fitted bathrooms and roofing were both next with 10 calls, the kitchens with eight and electrical services with three.

Peter Evans, county council cabinet member for public protection, said the complaints – collated from calls received in February – could have been avoided if homeowners had consulted the Trading Standards ‘Buy With Confidence’ register.

The register includes eight central heating traders and 21 plumbers.

He said: “Overall there are 238 Buy With Confidence members in West Sussex and more than 2.500 in the South East.

“All have been strictly vetted and inspected by our Trading Standards experts to make sure they are committed to maintaining high standards and have a good customer focus.”
