BSRIA buys controls research specialist

The Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA) has acquired Proplan, a global market research specialist in the building environmental controls, fire protection and security sector, for an undisclosed sum.

BSRIA bought the research firm from European intelligent buildings consultancy i&i Ltd.

BSRIA claims the acquisition will allow Proplan to continue research work with a larger team of market researchers. It plans to increase the geographical scope of its research and consolidate product knowledge between the two companies.

Andrew Eastwell, BSRIA’s chief executive said: “This business complements our own activities well, and supports our ambitions to grow our market share in worldwide construction market research. Proplan has an excellent image in the very important sector of controls.”

Proplan’s senior researcher Jeremy Towler has now joined BSRIA, however Proplan’s Allan McHale will retire.

BSRIA research staff Gambi Chiang and Andrew Giles will work with Mr Towler on multi-client reports and consultancy assignments.

Past reports written by Proplan can be obtained from BSRIA, under the BSRIA Proplan brand.

Reports from BSRIA Proplan include; EU(7) Building Controls – Environmental, Fire Detection, Security (2007/8), India Building Controls – Environmental, Fire Detection, Security in (2008), and US Security Market (2008).
