BRE deal could unlock China and India market

BRE says the acquisition of two specialist divisions of intelligent building consultancy i&i could provide a key to the China and India sustainabile building markets .

According to BRE the deal allows it to offer two additional services - intelligent building systems consultancy and the Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Building (ibexcellence).

Fast growing economies such as India and China are being targeted by BRE as part of its efforts to extend its scope internationally.

Dr Peter Bonfield, Chief Executive of BRE said: “We’re delighted to secure this acquisition from i&i limited, since they complement and reinforce our research and consultancy services in this area.

“This acquisition will further enable us to provide our clients with a range of new services focussed on exploiting the impact of information technologies on the built environment.

“This integrated approach will support the design and delivery of better performing buildings and communities in the 21st century. The BRE Group is set to become a global leader in this field.”

Alan Kell, the former Managing Director of i&i limited and now Director of BRE’s new International Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Building, said: “After ten years of developing our unique positioning in this field, we’re delighted to have this opportunity to merge with BRE.

“Working with BRE’s unique expertise and networks, we’ll be able to take this business to a completely new level.

“In many parts of the world – especially in fast growing countries like China and India - it’s critically important that we integrate technology-driven change with the demands for a fully sustainable built environment.”

Mr Kell is at the moment leading a UK delegation in China discussing intelligent and green buildings.
