£2,700 grants for boiler improvements

The elderly have been urged by a Government minister to take advantage of grants to improve their boilers.

Pensioners can claim grants of up to £2,700 to help meet the cost of boiler improvements or better insulation and the Government has sent a letter to around a quarter of a million people encouraging them to apply.

Environment minister Phil Woolas said: 'We're seeing energy prices on the increase so it's more important than ever that homes are energy efficient and everyone receives the financial help they're entitled to.

'Insulating your home or improving your boiler can make a big difference to energy bills by stopping huge amounts of heat escaping and ensuring you use your energy more effectively.'

People in England who are receiving Pension Credit can apply for a grant through the Warm Front scheme while pensioners who are not eligible for Pension Credit can claim a rebate of up to £300 towards the cost of making their homes better insulated.
