Willmott Dixon turns house into low carbon case study

Willmott Dixon’s social housing division Inspace has transformed a 1930s-built family home into a case study for low carbon thermal efficiency.

The company claims that heating bills could be almost halved by the work on the semi-detached house in Barnsley.

Inspace equipped the house with new materials and technologies designed to turn it from an E rating in environmental impact and energy efficiency to an A rating.

It estimates that the solar hot water, new gas boiler, cavity wall insulation, internal insulation and double glazing could see £477 cut from the annual gas bill.

Inspace managing director for innovation and sustainability Brendan Ritchie said: “Tackling energy efficiency on older housing stock will become a major priority and companies like Inspace will have to show how this can be done affordably.”
