Construction clients increase contractor lists by 15pc

by Greg Pitcher 03 Nov 2009

The number of construction clients creating lists of suppliers for forthcoming tenders increased by 15 per cent during the three months to September, figures from pre-qualification register Constructionline reveal.

Overall client use of Constructionline – the Government owned supplier register – was also 10 per cent up during the same period, compared to the previous three months.

The figures coincide with data from business information firm Experian that showed new orders in construction had grown by 22 per cent between the first and second quarters of this year.

In the three months to September this year, almost 50 new organisations adopted Constructionline as their preferred contractor register including One North East, Metropolitan Housing Association, Glasgow Prestwick Airport and Quarmby Construction.

Continued growth in suppliers registered with Constructionline during the same period has taken the total number of pre-qualified contractors and consultants on the database past the 18,000 mark.

Constructionline sales and marketing director Philip Prince said: “While conditions in the industry remain challenging, the public housing, infrastructure and maintenance sectors have continued to grow and this has been mirrored in the growth in our client activity on the Constructionline database.”
