Kier signs £54m Kent academy deal
Kier Group has signed a deal to build a £54 million academy on the Isle of Sheppey.
Construction work has begun at two sites on the east and west of the island, with the project due to be completed by August 2013.
The Isle of Sheppey Academy was formerly part of Kent County Council’s Building Schools for the Future LEP1 programme.
The school will be built to a renewable energy strategy aimed at reducing emissions by 60 per cent compared with 2002 building regulation standards.
The academy will serve 2,450 students, specialising in business, enterprise and sport. Facilities at the sites will also include a media suite and dance studios.
Kier chief executive Paul Sheffield (pictured) said: “As a company committed to providing first class learning establishments for the 21st century, Kier is particularly proud to be involved with the delivery of this landmark scheme.”
