Interserve to complete Glasgow project

Contractor Interserve is set to complete the first phase of a £6.5 million contract to refurbish George House in Glasgow’s famous George Square for real estate company Redevco.

The first phase of the contract is due for completion in early 2012, with the remainder to be completed later in the year, delivering a total of 90,000 square feet of office space to local businesses.

The office building, which features four south-facing storeys and five north-facing storeys, is located close to several iconic Glasgow landmarks in the famous pedestrianised square, including the prestigious and historic City Chambers.

With only limited site access, the refurbishment work has required a crane capable of lifting seventy tonne mechanical and electrical loads to roof height. Interserve scaffolding was utilised for this scheme.

As part of its refurbishment contract, Interserve is stripping down all of the building’s interior, including its mechanical and electrical elements. Raised access floors, improved common areas, the replacement of the lift system and a new feature entrance will complement the interior.

Interserve’s client, Redevco, is aiming to achieve a ‘B’ rating Energy Performance Certificate for the building and has already achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certified rating for the refurbishment.
