FiT review announced by DECC

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced its consultation of the Feed-in Tariff review.

The review has been divided into two phases, with the overall intention of considering topics including tariff levels, eligible technologies, administrative and regulatory arrangements and accreditation and certification issues.

Phase one will examine small-scale PV of 250 kW or less, the linking of tariffs to specified minimum energy efficiency requirements from 1 April 2012 and the introduction of multi-installation tariff rates for aggregated solar PV schemes for installations after 1 April 2012.

The consultation on phase one will run until 23 December this year.

Phase two will look at tariffs for non-PV technologies, new cost control mechanisms, administrative aspects and other details.

The DECC states that a date for the phase two consultation will be announced before the end of the year.

Proposals include the reduction of tariffs for installations of up to 4 kW to 21p/kWh, less than half the current 43.3p/kWh, for both new build and retrofit projects.

Reductions are proposed for all tariffs, excluding the 250 kW-5 MW and standalone bands, which remain at 8.5p.
