Daikin: legislation must be imposed

The government should be doing more to ensure that the looming deadline for AC inspections is met, a leading manufacturer has said.

Daikin’s Simon Keel said that government must compel buildings managers to comply with regulations, either by force or incentive, if the UK is to meet carbon reduction targets.

“What is needed is either a bigger stick or a bigger carrot. The latter could take the form of direct grant help (not even remotely likely in the wake of today’s financial cut backs).

“More realistic are subtle drivers which would ultimately affect the pockets of the non-compliers.

“Many of the buildings that have been looked at and have been reported on have had no action taken upon them as yet.”
