Building Design Partnership - Overview and Financial Analysis

Founded in 1961, the firm employs around 1,146 architects, designers, engineers, urbanists, sustainability experts, lighting designers and acoustics specialists in 15 offices (which it calls studios) across the UK, France, Ireland and Netherlands. The studios vary in style, and in size between 20 staff and 500, although all aim to provide an environment which encourages integrated team working.

The firm has recently seen healthy growth in recent years, opened new studios in Winchester, London and Birmingham, although turnover was static in 2009. It has also recently made an acquisition in the Netherlands.

BDP has a strong track record in all major sectors including health, education, workplace, retail, urbanism, heritage, housing, transport and leisure. The firm specialises in integrated working and combining its expertise across disciplines, locations, sectors and building types.

BDP is led by a board of directors which elects a chairman, currently Tony McGuirk, a chief executive, Peter Drummond, and a group finance director, John Parker.
