WINNER: Rural installer of the Year 2010

In business since 1982, W E Scott & Sons passed into new hands in 2007, from which time it has increased turnover from £750,000 to nearly £1.5 million and moved into new areas of work including solar thermal and ground source and air source heat pumps.

In the past year the company has introduced new software to enable all enquiries to tracked from first call to completion, as well as launching a website and e-commerce shop.

WES now has a full environmental policy and has replaced company vehicles with newer, more efficient units. The firm also shares vehicles with its fellow contractors when practicable.

All of WES’s site staff are trained in the use of mobile scaffolding and work access machinery, such as scissor lifts and cherrypickers. In addition, all of its step ladders are now fibreglass and site engineers now take the ECITB two-day health and safety passport qualification. WES is a member of HVCA, Gas Safe, Oftec, CHAS, Constructionline and is currently seeking accreditation under Safe Contractor.

The judges said: “There was a clear outright leader whose submission hit all the buttons in terms of exemplar projects and results from new initiatives.”

“This award will mean a lot not only to the winner but to our customers and others using LPG or oil fuel sources”

Laura Luty, marketing manager, Calor
