Apprentice of the Year
In September 2010, Sam completed an Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship with Ideal Heating, Hull Training and the Humberside Engineering Training Organisation. This followed a highly successful five-year programme of academic study and practical experience, resulting in Sam achieving a distinction for his Higher Professional Diploma.
Judges were impressed by Sam’s mentoring of the younger apprentices in his own time as well as his work towards further qualifications, including Industrial Gas Service and Maintenance of Gas Services and Equipment. His practical achievements include key roles in plant improvement projects, working with specialist external contractors and installing newly manufactured or repaired parts.
He currently works in the Ideal Heating plant engineering office, and is involved in projects including the design of new commercial boiler castings. Continuing to extend his skills, Sam is learning testing, maintenance and control procedures for several on-site key systems, including sprinkler, fire detection, back-up generators and UPS systems.
