SPIE Matthew Hall is a mechanical engineering contractor and was founded in 1748 by Matthew Hall, a lead worker from Newcastle-upon-Tyne who moved to London to set up a lead works and plumbing company.
In 1988, Matthew Hall merged with Amec, an engineer and project management consultancy. In 2007, French construction, facilities management and industrial engineering company SPIE bought Amec Building Facilities Services. The new business was called SPIE Matthew Hall.
It has four business units:
- Building services
- Facilities management
- Fire engineering
- Energy management
SPIE Matthew Hall’s turnover in 2008 was £312.3m, more than double the figure for the previous year thanks to the contribution of the SPIE business.
SPIE Matthew Hall has supplied mechanical and electrical services for Heathrow’s Terminal Five and McLaren’s Formula One centre in Woking.
It also runs facilities for the Tate galleries in London and Liverpool, and for Sellafield nuclear waste site.
